Kara Gilliam

Miss Heather’s would like to welcome back Miss Kara Gilliam. Some of you may have seen her in a couple of our productions over the last few years such as “Mary Poppins”, “A Movie Marathon”, "Shrek", "Miss Heather's School of Dance Has Talent”, "Wizard of Oz" and “Dancing Down the Road of Rock and Roll”.

Dancing since she was 4 years old, Kara has danced at several studios in North Carolina and Virginia and has competed in numerous regional and national dance competitions. She is experienced in Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Ballet, Pointe and Lyrical and was also a cheerleader throughout junior high and high school. Kara attended Virginia Tech where she danced with the Dance Company of Virginia Tech. While there she also choreographed for college events, competitions and local pageants. She has also choreographed and performed at various DuPont-sponsored events in the community.

Kara is certified in ballet and jazz through Dance Masters Of America and has traveled to New York City, attending several classes and workshops at the Broadway Dance Center.  This year, Kara will be working with the Mini, Hip Hop Competition Teams in Smyrna as well as the combined Tap Team from both locations.  Her goal is to always help her students find their talent and grow it to it's highest potential.  Her greatest joy in teaching is watching her students evolve into beautiful dancers and performers. She always reminds her students to "dance from your heart, love your music, and the audience will love you in return."

In her free time, Kara likes to spend quality time with her husband and her two children, Laila and Mia, who both dance at the studio. She also enjoys football and lots of shopping!

We are so happy to have her be a part of our team again this season and celabrate our 10th year with us!
